Industrial Electric Locomotive NPM2 for Efficient Rail Transport

Electric locomotive is designed for operation on railway tracks electrified on the post-annual current with rated voltage of contact network 1500V, metallurgical plants and open-pit mining at ambient temperature from minus 50C to plus 40C with guiding lifts (gradients) up to 35%. The project was made by order of OJSC "MMK" (Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works). Some features of the design Three-phase asynchronous electric motors with squirrel cage rotor (ATD) are used as traction motors.

The ATDs are powered by adjustable static voltage and frequency converters. The electric locomotive provides normal operation on 35‰ elevations with the appropriate train weight. The electric locomotive is equipped with two central and two side current collectors.
