A cover covering protruding underwater parts of the hull of the ship, ship devices, instruments, etc. in order to reduce their hydrodynamic resistance and protection from mechanical damage. The propeller fairing is attached to the hub at the aft end of the propeller shaft.

It prevents jets of flowing water from blowing off the propeller. To reduce corrosion, it is made of the same material as the propeller. The hydro-acoustic antenna fairing is a single or multilayer sound-conducting shell made of metal (AMg alloys) or polymer.

Its main acoustic characteristics: complex coefficient of sound transmission and noise immunity, which affect the distortion of antenna directivity characteristics and, consequently, on bearing errors. The strength of the fairing is calculated for loads from the oncoming water flow. With the hull of the vessel fairing of the same material is attached by welding, in the case of dissimilar materials - riveted.
