Optical cable contains a core in the form of a central tube within which up to 48 single-mode or multi-mode optical fibres are arranged. The interior of the tube is filled with a hydrophobic compound or other water blocking material along its entire length. An inner sheath of polyethylene or polymer compound may be applied over the core. Armour made of galvanised steel wire is placed on top of the core or sheath. The armour is filled with a thixotropic hydrophobic compound or other water blocking material along its entire length. On top of the armour there is a polymer sheath made of polyethylene or polymer compound that does not spread combustion in single laying or polymer compound that does not spread combustion in group laying.
